Round 7 of the NSW Superkart Club championship was held at Oran Park on the full circuit on Saturday November 8. The party started Thursday afternoon for HRT with the HYPERRACER team arriving comprising of Jon and Dean Crooke, and Dave Sheedy. I was like a kid on christmas morning with our Hyper 111 machine tucked in Crookey's trailer. We all did the practice day on the Friday with Deano blasting his previous lap record off the planet with a new 1.18.6. Very impressive for HRT's new weapon. I had a run in 1 session and was stoked to do a 1.21.7 while running conservative, never driven it, and couldn't reach the pedals!! A problem Dean rectified on the Saturday night. Saturday started with all
peaking at the heavens wondering if we were going to get drowned. Dean,
quick as a flash posted the pole time as per usual, 1.19.3, with Mark
Vickers and Alan dodge behind. My out lap started well with a stack of pace
that I couldn't use because of traffic. A lap in and a loose power valve
brought me in early. Up front for the 250 Inters Sam Zavaglia put out a
1.09.0166.Dam Quick!! 4 seconds faster than the nearest 250. John Pellicano
was fastest for the 125 G/B class with a 1.15.3 lap.
Race 1 saw Deano drive off into the distance setting another lap record of 1.18.2. Alan Dodge second with Anthony Gattellaro 3rd. Patrick Atherton and Chris Jewell were having a great battle that would last all day. My race didn't go so well with an 11th place finish courtesy of no pull out of the corners. A problem that would last all day. Race 2 and Deano was gooonne once again. Dam! he can drive!! Alan's no slouch either and came home 2nd. Further back in the field 1 second separated 6 Maxes. Not bad when you consider they're all doing around 150 klm p/hr.
Race 3. Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Deano again!! What more can I say
Another late night this one till 2ish in the morning, Pelly joined the Party again on what topped off an absolute fantastic few days. Many thanks to Jon and Dean Crooke for turning the 88 Hypermax into the 111 HRT machine. Lets just hope it's not in semi retirement in my hands. |
