Round
5 of the NSW Superkart club championship was held at Wakefield Park on
Sunday September 21. 31 entries took to the track in various classes, an
excellent showing considering track density was 36. Wakefield's always a
cracker with a lot of drivers making it a weekend away. As usual we camped
at Trappers, an excellent hotel with all the comforts. Arriving Saturday
afternoon we sussed out the track and got things in place for Sunday. Thanks
Kayla (Wakefield Park secretary of the the meeting) for making everything a
simple process. Good mate Crookey and the boys were there from Hyperracer so
we decided to hit the Paragon Cafe for dinner. Top feed at that joint, I'm
tempted to make the odd run down there just to eat. It's a great atmosphere
at these weekends with friends everywhere. Anthony Gattarlero and the AKA
guys sitting just across. Colin Moore and Craig lovie Taylor (nuk nuk nuk
nuk nuk!!) down a lil further. We all hit the road at 9.30 to head back for
a bit of kip.
It was great to wake up and
not freeze your nuts off like we did in June here. Beautiful blue sky, warm
weather, yeah yeah. We rocked up at 7.00, set up and waited for qualifying.
I was pretty pumped after the last round at Eastern Creek where the HRT 111
machine was on firing. Well that turned to s...t pretty quick as the
Wakefield hoodoo was back.
Qualifying
was a shocker, low revs, slow times, wouldn't pull out of corners, bit of
work to do here. Deano had a quick bo peep and gave the carby the once over.
Thanks Deano and thanks Shauna for getting the job done especially as she
was multi tasking with our machine and doing a stack of club things in the
same breath.
Race 1, starting at the rear,
it was going well. not perfect but much better. We had some punch but
couldn't get around some slowing gearbox karts. At the finish, we lost all
revs again but thought maybe a power valve problem. Dean Crooke cleaned up
big time to take the win.
Race 2, lasted 1 lap and
pulled it in, no revs, no mumbo, back to the drawing board. Shauna and Alan
Dodge worked frantically to sort the problem, turned out to be a broken
exhaust in 2 places. That will explain it.
Race 3. I yeah, it's going
again, but some so so driving on my behalf only made up 1 position, but hey
it finally went forwards! Didn't help I came off at turn 1, but I kept the
boot in on the dirt and came back on about 100m up the road, but at least it
was running well.
Race
4, I wanted 1 good race, that lasted not a lap, hounding 4 karts in front,
the 2 in front of me spun coming onto the back straight. aarrr, I spun to
avoid, and watched the field drive off. vroooom, hit the starter and off we
chase. It was fun though.
Congrads to Deano for winning
all 4 races with ease and setting a new lap record in the process with a
106.6994. We'll leave him at home next time!!
