After a sluggish round 2 at Eastern Creek HRT
showed some great pace at Oran Park South for Round 3 of the NSW
Superkart Championship. It actually turned out to be a cracker jack
round full of excitement, fun and serious hard racing. The organisers
MRA did an outstanding job at running a race meeting. Ian Saville from
Karting world sorted the bent axle prior to the event and Shauna prepped
a beautiful weapon ready for racing. I must thank all who have helped
with advice on getting the 111 Hyper ready to rock and roll. Firstly
John Pellicano from Giova Racing who has spent many hours, nights
assisting. The list is endless, John Whitfield, Owen Rowell, Alan Dodge,
Chris and Drew Parks where do I stop. I can say I wouldn’t change a
thing about the guys that race, there just the best people.
Qualifying
7 Maxes but 2 in the new heavy division.
Weight doesn’t seem to effect on the south and all were pumped to be
back there for the 1st time since last May. The opening laps
were a little hairy scary with a lot of fishtailing out of the turns.
After 3 or so laps we found some grip as the tyres heated up then
concentrated on dialling into this awesome track. I was pumped to see a
49.4 lap as my previous best was a 49.2, and on tyres that had 160+ laps
at Wakefield and another 23 at E/C.
Mark Vickers set the quick time of 48.4 With Dalton Rowell behind with a
48.7. Mark you fox you!! Showing the form you had in 08. The outright
front row was all Giova Racing with John Pellicano on pole with a 45.2
in the 125 Gearbox and Big George beside with a 45.9 in the 250
International. Big George was pumped sitting in his Giova designed
lounge chair as a seat. We didn’t think he would get out!!

Little Dalton did what he does best, WIN…
with Mark in 2nd and Dodgey 3rd, I was happy with
4th as the pace was there. A new personal best of 48.4 for
myself, yeah yeah.. Pelly won the 125 Gearbox race with Jeff Reed in
close hot pursuit. Big George was still smiling.
Race

Mark took the win with Dalton just behind.
Surprisingly the maxes had a lot more pace than most 125 Gearboxes and
had to fight hard to pass with the rapid acceleration the gearbox karts
have. Made for some fun and games coming into the tighter turns at 1 and
leading back onto the straight. Reedy got Pelly this time in what was a
fierce battle all day.
Race

Where do you start. This one had everything.
The maxes had caught the back end of the gearboxes by the flip flop. 1
gearbox lost it with 7 maxes screaming over the blind hill at 140+.
Whooska, 3 speared off, Mark was doing 360s in the centre of track,
Todd, myself and Jeff were hard on the brakes trying to pick a hole. I
think we all shut our eyes and hoped for the best. 1..2..3 were all
through and the chase begins, only to see a red flag as we cross the
start line. Back to pit lane and wait for the clean up to resume racing.
All except Anthony Gatterlarro made it back out who had a bent axle and
a day that was now all over red rover. Dalton from the back just
launched through the field to take the win setting a new lap record in
the process with a 47.8860 second lap.

This was awesome, not all made it out, but 6
laps of fast furious racing. My good mate Alan Dodge was an earlier
casualty with a seized motor. The balance had a ball. The last throw of
the dice on the South Circuit for superkarts except for an exhibition
run in December for Kids Race Day 09. Presentation was a fun affair,
with all 16 competitors having an
excellent day. Big George was the 250 inter man. Matty Wark the 250 Nat
man. Jay Cutting the 80cc man. 125 Gearbox was Jeff Reed with John
Pellicano 2nd Jeremy Shelton 3rd. The Maxes was
Dalton Rowell 1st, Mark Vickers 2nd, and Wayne
Horswell 3rd.
The day ran so smooth with so many thanks
having to go to Shauna Smith, Michelle Dodge, Chris Parks, Drew Parks,
Clint Brown. Special thanks to Colin and Linda Moore for inviting us all
back to there home for a pizza night, what a way to top the day off.
Yeah Yeah.
